Use the link above to BBC Bitesize and read all about the Ancient Olympic games. Read the information about how the games came about and why. Then click on the individual events to read about them in detail. Watch the video and take a tour of Olympia.
Task Write a newspaper article about the games. Describe what happens before the games start, what happened at the games as well as the different events, what did the winners receive to celebrate their win. Use all the information you have looked at on the web pages.
Read the attached newspaper article to see how to set out your work. This one has been annotated so you can see how and where the features are used to make your writing more interesting. In ancient Greece times, they didn’t have photographs but you can draw pictures instead to accompany your article. There is a word mat attached to help you with some of the vocabulary you will need. Newspapers are written in columns down the page rather than straight across; to make your article more like real life fold your page in half to make two columns. Remember to give your article a headline (title) which needs to be in larger writing than the rest of your work. |
