Internet Safety

Headfield is part of Parentzone's Digital Schools membership programme, recognising our commitment to keeping our pupils safe online. We even became their 1st Digital School of Excellence following our Online Safety Parent workshop held in April 2017. The website above has a wealth of information for families. Parentzone create, curate and check the best available advice and information on all of the issues that are caused or amplified by the internet. Our joint mission is to improve outcomes for children in a digital world so:

*Children will be safer online

*Children will be resilient enough to cope with the challenges of the online world.

*Children will be educated for a digital future.

A Parenting Course is freely available to our families. Click here to find out how to access the course.

Children are always supervised whilst surfing the internet in school. Our emailing system DB Primary, is tracked and monitored by staff and all messages can be seen. Children can report any negative mail to any/all members of staff to be dealt with. This includes any mail sent whilst the children are surfing DB Primary at home.

DB Primary can be accessed by clicking here.

The school network prevents children and staff from accessing social networking sites and anything that is considered inappropriate content for children. We have invested heavily in Smoothwall, a pioneering real-time system that identifies and filters inappropriate web content and blocks access to it. It contains an effective reporting system so the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher are made aware of any misuse of school's equipment immediately so appropriate action can be taken.

Pupils cannot access games that are non-educational and are not permitted to use messenger to talk to their friends whilst in school.

All pupils sign an Acceptable Use Policy agreeing to schools' terms and conditions for using school computer equipment and devices. Staff also complete their own version of this policy too.

We teach children to be smart thinkers when it comes to internet safety. They know about protecting themselves online and the do's and don'ts of the internet both at school and at home. All classes have a Digidog. Digidog goes home with 1 child per class each week and the children teach Digidog how to be safe online. They complete an activity in their class book to share with the other children.

Our curriculum is rich in internet safety learning. In our 1st half term in September & October 2017 every child in school was taught Kirklees Safeguarding Children's Board 'My 1st Mobile Phone' project. Click here to follow the link to learn all about the project.
